Welcome to Remnants! In order to curate a positive experience on-site and in roleplay, here are a set of rules we ask all members to follow. Failure to follow these rules may result in varying degrees of punishment, see the "Disciplinary Actions" section for more.
General Conduct
1. Absolutely no racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, aphobia, or bigotry of any kind. This includes in-roleplay. This may result in an instant ban.
2. The characters in Remnants are children and teenagers. For this reason, absolutely no sexual content is allowed. This does not include romance between characters, which is perfectly fine. Crude humor is also allowed in moderation.
3. Swearing is allowed in moderation! Slurs are not. If unsure about a certain word, err on the side of caution, and consult an admin first.
4. If you have a conflict with another roleplayer, do your best to resolve it privately with them. If the issue becomes more serious, let a staff member know.

5. In general, respect each other. We are here to have fun, not to fight!
6. All players must have an Out of Character account, which they will use to create character applications. Once accepted, please make one account for each character.
Characters
1. Two high ranks are allowed per person. These characters cannot be in the same faction.
2. Remnants is a hardcore roleplaying game, meaning that it is very possible for characters to die in-roleplay. If this occurs, that character cannot be brought back.
3. Due to the possibility of death and serious injury that combat can incur, we ask that you always receive the consent of a roleplay before engaging in combat with their character.
3. Gay, trans, non-binary, and any other LGBT characters are allowed! Please respect their identities and use the proper pronouns indicated on their character sheet.
4. There is a monthly activity check. Characters will be archived after a month of inactivity. Archived characters can be brought back once the player returns. If the archived character has a high rank, the rank is opened for another to claim. If no one claims the rank, the original character keeps it.
5. You must ask the leader of a faction if you want to move a character to the faction, even upon purchasing the "Move Faction" perk from the points shop.
6. Each person can make up to 4 characters. More character slots can be purchased in the points shop.
7. Face claims are allowed but not required. Face claims may be a real-life photograph or art. If using an art piece as a face claim, make sure to acquire the artist's permission before using it. Art theft is not allowed in any form.
8.Though magic and supernatural abilities are part of the setting, these abilities may only be used in adherence with the mechanics outlined in the Magic section of the guidebook. Characters may not have abilities outside of those outlined in this section, unless the "Foreign Magic" perk is purchased from the Point Shop.

9. Post templates are allowed, but should not hinder the ability to read your posts. Try to keep post templates high-contrast and easy to read. If a post template is found to be unreadable, you may be asked to change the template.
Roleplaying
1. Add the [OPEN] or [CLOSED] prefix to threads to signal who can participate. Open threads are open to everyone, while closed threads are for specific people. You can add [OPEN for] to signal that a specific group is allowed to participate.
2. Keep in-character knowledge and out-of-character knowledge separate. Metagaming is not allowed.
3. Do not make a character overpowered/unbeatable. This is also known as powerplaying. Powerplaying includes controlling the actions of other characters.
4. Avoid potentially sensitive topics, such as suicide and self-harm, even in roleplay context.
5. Flashback roleplays. If a roleplay is occurring outside of the current timeline, please place the [FB] prefix on the name of the thread.
6. When it comes to relationships, keep the age of characters in mind. Large age gaps are not permitted, neither are relationships involving characters under the age of 13.

7. Remnants is a semi-literate roleplay. While there is no minimum word count, we encourage posts to be at least 150 words. Posts must be written in the third person and past tense.
Mechanics
1. Remnants uses a series of mechanics detailed in our guidebook. These mechanics are designed to encourage and aid in roleplay. They are not optional. Any questions about these mechanics should be directed to the admins.
2. Occasionally, staff will PM members to let them know that one of their characters is sick. All details required to roleplay this illness will be provided to members.
3. Remnants operates on a system of liquid time, meaning that characters may appear in multiple threads at the same time.
4. Conditions on the day that a thread is begun carry on throughout said thread. For example, if a thread is started during a storm, the whole thread takes place during said storm, even if the weather changes for the rest of the site.
5. Every two weeks in real life represent one month in roleplay. Thus, every character will age 2 months per real world month. Your character's birthday is entirely up to you.
6. Contrary to other zombie media, it is not possible for characters in Remnants to become zombies (which we call Strangers.) Upon turning 16, they do not turn into strangers. Whether your character is aware of this or not is up to you.
7. Occasionally, staff will create threads known as Force of Nature threads. These threads involve incidents such as storms, zombie attacks, or earthquakes, which may be participated in by characters in exchange for point rewards.
Disciplinary Actions
Discipline will be enacted on a case-by-case basis depending on the severity of the rule broken. Minor offenses, such as not crediting a face-claim or powerplaying, will result in a warning. Major offenses, such as intentional bigotry, spam, or discussion of sensitive topics may result in a mute or ban. Offending threads may also be deleted, and the points from said threads are unable to be claimed.
