Overhaul Announcement

    Hello, everyone! My name is Finch, and along with my co-admin Sam, I created this site several months ago. As roleplay began, I started to find several issues cropping up. Mainly, these issues were mechanical.

    At the beginning of Remnants, there was little way to know whether or not a character would succeed at an action, or win in combat, or survive a perilous situation. These decisions were thus made by players, or by inconsistent methods involving dice rolls or coin flips. While the roleplay was surely interesting, I felt that this site was sorely lacking in mechanics.

    Largely, I attribute this to the lack of research I performed upon creating this roleplay. Since then, I have learned much more about roleplay forums and roleplaying games in general. After a few days of being closed, and weeks of hard work behind the scenes, me and my co-admin present to you our solution to this issue: The Remnants overhaul!

    This overhaul aims to add mechanics to our RPG without taking away the roleplaying aspect. Mainly, we have implemented a system of character creation involving specific abilities and skills that each character has. All new mechanics can be viewed through our guidebook.

    For those who were already roleplaying with us, you needn't worry about major changes to your characters, or to Remnants as a whole. We're still the same site, just better! After the opening of the new site, you will have one real-life month, or until January 15th, 2021 to convert your characters to our new system. We hope for this transition to be as smooth as possible. To start the process of transferring over your characters, see this thread. Be sure to also read our updated rules!

    We understand that our new mechanics may seem daunting. Again, with this overhaul, we hope only to make roleplaying on Remnants more fun, not less. Our character creation process has been designed to give you a walk through of the different mechanics we will be using around the site. Beyond this, you need only read the only sections of the rules when they are relevant to your roleplaying experience.

    Alongside these mechanics, we will be implementing a monthly activity check. This is mainly just so that we know who is still interested in roleplaying with us. This activity check will occur each month on the 15th, starting on January 15th of 2021. We will be sure to clearly communicate when these checks are occurring, both on the site and on our Discord. If a player does not reply to an activity check, their characters will be archived. This means that any high ranks they previously held may be claimed by new players. However, archived characters can always be brought back into the roleplay if a player decides to return!
